If you take a look at Nickycakes.com and view the source code, near the bottom you can see the following message:
<!-- Do not deleting the credits, this theme is released for free under the GNU General Public License (GPL) requiring that the credits will stay intact.I'd appreciate the credit being left in unmodified, thanks in advance -->

Apparently, Nicky has used a Wordpress theme licensed under the GNU General Public License and decided he'd just rip off the original author by removing the credits the original author placed on the theme, even though the author clearly required them to remain intact.

As you can see, on the page and in the source code, no credits remain for the original author.

I think it's pretty clear that Nicky only cares if someone gets ripped off if he can benefit from it.

I mean if Nicky makes so much money, why wouldn't he just hire someone to create a theme or buy a pre-made one?

You better check out the source of his page quick, because I'm sure Nicky will try to remove this and act like it never happened.

What a D-bag!

WTF? Can we move this thread to another area or just delete it. It has nothing to do with aff marketing.

Well, Nicky is an affiliate marketer with an affiliate marketing blog. So I'd say it's relevant.

GPL is supposed to be free for everything, not just beer and speech but price and links too. That someone "forces" their links onto the page is a slap in the face of all the people who have worked hard for open source projects (including WP) without getting anything in return.

Sponsored themes are just a fucking joke. Not to mention that big brother Gg can slap your site because of linking to a bad neighborhood.

Fuck those people who think they can abuse the GPL like that. There is too much good there to allow $2/hour workers to abuse it for $50 and a few backlinks. If you can't release themes simply for "the good of the community" then charge for them on your personal website ... don't include them on the wordpress site because they truly aren't FREE.

Bottom line: Nicky didn't violate the GPL the theme designer did

Im finding it amazingly hilarious how everyone jumps to the defence of this guy. He's ripped off a fucking WORDPRESS template.

HANG THE BITCH!

This is disturbing news.

Thank you for having the balls to report it, you are truly fearless.

Please keep us informed, don't let him get away with this.

I agree with you in the aspect that people aren't gonna speak out against the Cakes, at the same time though... I don't really see the lynch mob, "Lets get him" mentality being necessary over a fucking theme... (granted its not right, but really, who the fuck cares)

Now... if Nicky wanted to start calling himself Ub3r l33t, and charge $5000 to have a conversation with me in a forum... I might jump on said band-wagon
