Quitting smoking

Allen Carr ftw. Basically he says through hundred+ pages that smoking brings you nothing whatsoever. As you absorb that thought, giving up is really easy.

I stopped smoking over a year ago and did not even feel anything, and I did not read the whole book, just skimmed and planted the idea in me.

I tried it and found myself tired all the time... like really tired, to the point of not even wanting to get out of bed. I stopped using it (the Australian equivalent anyway) two weeks in. Other folks I know have used it with little to no problems though.
You're an Aussie?

Same with me, although I did read the Easyway book twice, gave up after nearly 20 years smoking. It doesn't work for everyone but if it clicks with you, it's a simple way to give up - 8 years now and no relapse at all :)

Fuck me man.

I broke tonight.

And here's my biggest problem:

I correlate working on the computer (web design, coding) with smoking cigarettes. I used to correlate alcohol and smoking (like cookies and milk), and that was easy to kick. But with my garage being my workspace, it's easy to smoke while I work and has become a pretty reliable habit.

Again, fuck me.

If possible I'd move your workspace indoors (or at least away from your garage).

Stop smoking at the computer. When you smoke go outside or something out of the way. When you're ready to quit again you'll won't associate the two

Fuck the chantix go for Nicotine replacement. It's the nicotine you are craving not having your neurotransmitters levels fucked with.

Gum sucks, the best thing I found was the little tablets you put under your tongue. Have one everytime you crave a cigarrette. Do this for at least 4 months so the addiction is transfered to the tablets then stop the tablets. You'll eventually get sick of stuffing these things under your tongue and stop, then the withdrawl will hit but you'll crave the tablets not the cigarettes, much easier to deal with. 3 weeks of withdrawl and you should be golden. I haven't smoked for 6 years, well one drag but it was so disgusting I immedietly threw it away.

+1 for Allen Carr.

I tried 4 or 5 times before I succeeded using his book. Don't get sucked into some sort of replacement bollocks, it's only keeping the habit alive, it simply doesn't work in my experience.

You have to learn fags are evil, as well as the companies that propagate their use and sales. For me, I re-anchored all my habits. I loved a fag on the shitter, with coffee, first thing in the morning and in certain situations.

After reading Carr's book, I decided to approach all things that cause me to think of smoking as often as possible, so as to re-anchor those feelings and habitual cues. I drank more coffee, I made a point of going outside with my morning coffee, where I'd normally smoke, and instead eat an apple. I'd do the things I feared would cause me to crack most, frequently. Before long I no longer associated anything I did with smoking.

Also taking on what Carr said, I only know the month I quit - I didn't count the days at any point. I'm not even sure of the year anymore, counting days is a bad thing, just get angry at the industry and by not smoking feel like you're sticking your fingers up at them.

I was on chantix and the shit made me go crazy. One night I went out and had a few beers and when I came home my gf asked me something and I just flipped and I guess I ran head first into a stainless steel fridge and knocked myself out.

I got off it and quit cold turkey.

I've tried to quit smoking a lot of times but i failed! Now, i am using an electronic cigarette but once in a while when i am drinking with friends i can't help but to smoke a real cigarette. It's really hard to quit smoking!

1 week update: No weird dreams. No side effects that I've seen. Only thing I've noticed: everyday my cigarettes taste worse.

It's at the point, I'm almost forcing myself to smoke. Simply because when I put them down for good, I want to remember how absolutely horrid they are.

Honestly, at this point, I could not have another and probably be just fine.

I'm going to keep smoking through the weekend and put them down on Monday for good.

Will update things in a week or so.

Good luck!

My experience with Chantix was horrible, I quit taking it in less than a week. My Mom used it for a month and quit for 6 months, then relapsed (sucks).

I've tried about everything. I've read Carr's book (which I highly recommend).

Patches, gum, e-cigs, etc.

So I'm back to the point where I'm VERY motivated to quit. IF the Chantix doesn't work out for you, this may help.

I started lurking and signed up at an e-cig forum (the first one that shows up in Google), and there are probably thousands of posts from ex-smokers who now vape exclusively. Not saying it's healthy, but better than cigs for sure.

So I talked to some people there, and all I had ever tried where the cheap gas station e-cigs. The consensus is basically they're shit, get something quality and it's a much better replacement.

I just ordered something similar to this in a starter kit + a lot of different juices to try out...

I'm hoping it comes tomorrow.

If Chantix works for you, awesome. I've read a TON of stories from people who switch to vaping and buy quality equipment make the transition pretty easily.

I'm trying it myself starting tomorrow. I'll post back if I experience any long-term success with it. For me, just switching to vapor over cigs would be a win.

Good luck! Shit is serious business. If you can do it it'll be the best thing you could possibly do for yourself.

I quit cold turkey in 2008.

You have to want to stop. You have to learn to dislike cigarettes. Your brain will try to fuck with you. Don't be weak. Don't have one.

Don't hang out with smokers either. Too easy to bum a cigarette in a weak moment.

Do it Mike. gl
all of this. Quit cold turkey last year, didnt look back. Definitely locked myself in my apartment for a month with no drinking, but that didnt hurt the wallet at all.

Good luck brother. Remember, its just tobacco.

Good lord Ryan! Didn't need to see that. lol

I've actually tried ecigs and didn't have good luck with them. They hurt my lungs. Like made it hard to breathe. Whereas a regular cigarette doesn't cause that kind of discomfort. It's possible that it was something in that particular brand of juice, but it pretty much scared me off ecigs.
