Rage gets his own threads for this all the time so it's my turn fuck you if you don't like it let me vent. I promise I have some constructive criticism.

So I watched the ending of the Italy vs Slovakia game and it reminded me why I stopped watching soccer in the first place.

Seriously, what the fuck is that laying down for 5 minutes pretending you're injured just to run out the clock?? Changing players in the dieing seconds to kill time?? Not that I care Italy lost - I'm actually glad but just using this game to make a point.

And we all know how all these sissy players are when they get fouled.

I don't hate the sport itself, I think it's great to play and appreciate the skills necessary to be great at the game. My questions is, why don't they just clean the fucking sport up?

Most sports have progressed in one way or another to become more entertaining and exciting. I'm pretty sure soccer hasn't changed shit in like 50 years. Why not? It could be soooo much better with just a few simple changes.

1) Get rid of the gay pretending you're hurt shit, either tell the guy to get off the fucking field right away and don't let him back in the game for a good 20 minutes or tell him to get the fuck up, it makes you all look like sissy girls - hell maybe even give him a yellow card for being a fucking sissy if it's obvious he's pretending (similar to a diving rule in the NHL).

For a sport that supposedly has great sportsmanship and the players are "classy" e.g. give the guy you just tripped a hand, no fighting, etc - this is such hypocrisy.

2) Stop the time when you have a little sissy girl rolling around with a "broken" leg. This is especially important when it's the dieing seconds and a 1 goal game. I know they stop it if it's really serious but they can waste a good 20 seconds if not more if the guy fakes it for a bit and gets up. Don't tell me it's a "strategy" or "tactic" cause that's just gay as shit and you know it.

3) Change the offside rule, has to be the gayest offside rule in all of sports and they are blown calls on a regular basis. Can't remember the game but there was a blown one the other day that cost someone the game. It's never going to be perfect but the way it is now there's a much higher % of blown calls.

I think there's more but I gotta get going. Those 3 things alone would make the sport 100 times better.

Discuss.

I don't get get why people like you and Rage who supposedly "hate" soccer waste time watching it, then turn around and waste more of your own time ranting about how gay it is and what a waste of time it is to watch.

Yes, soccer is gay, that is why I and many others don't watch it nor waste any time staying up to date on its highlights.

No matter how much you want it to be, soccer or rather FOOTBALL, won't become handegg..opps I mean NFL.

Any game that you play for 90+ minutes and the end score is 0-0...is a fucking waste of time. World Cup..couldn't give a shit.

I'd rather finger my own asshole than watch a game of soccer. No but seriously, I really hate soccer.

you used to be an alright poster, now you put on this gimmick to try to impress everyone. the nick throlson bashing was funny until everyone realized he might in fact be mentally fucking retarded, yet you still try to beat the dead horse months later.

your posts aren't funny, in fact they put you on the same level of worthlessness as throlson.

give up.

Sorry, I'm just kidding. Soccer really is awesome.

Nothing better than a bunch of bad actors rolling around on the grass pretending to be hurt and a game that ends with scores like 0-0 or 0-1 after 2 hours.

Fuck yeah. Besides, why you so mad people don't like soccer? Did you invent the shit? I like MMA and I'll happily debate MMA vs Boxing or whatever topic, but I'm not gonna get mad if someone doesn't like it. It's clear you're angry about people not liking soccer.

haha exactly. and at least nick throlson isnt a douchebag fuckhead guru trying to rip people off with shitty products. he might not be the brightest but the dude is still at least hustling for some money online while you sit on a gay webmaster forum with your nick throlson sig/avatar making yourself look like a worthless peasant. lol @ 10 posts a day

EDIT: .. haha must have gotten picked last back in the school yard days

Look how angry you get about the soccer thing, why? Soccer isn't a personal thing, not like people are ripping on your mother, it's just a sport.

Yes, you're on to me! I hate soccer because I was picked last back in school. Brilliant.

BTW, don't worry because next time I decide to change the avatar and sig it will offend a whole new group of people. In fact, I think I have just the topic...

1) That's what stoppage time is for. If you noticed, the refs added 4 minutes of stoppage time to the Italy-Slovakia game, but it ended at ~96 minutes. Why? Because the refs recognized that Slovakia was wasting time, so they just continued the game for an extra 2 minutes. Yellow cards are given if it's obvious he's pretending, but it's often only obvious when you're sitting at home watching it in slow-mo replay. In realtime, it's very difficult to see if they're diving or not.

Players frequently help others get up, except in the last ~10 minutes of a game that could decide their fate in the biggest soccer event of the world. At that point, anything goes. I assume you're referring to Cannavaro being a dick at the end. He was just pissed because he knew his country could be going home early in the event they won 4 years ago.

2) That is certainly a strategy and a tactic. I agree it's gay and I don't think players should do it, but it's a tactic nonetheless. See point 1 for why they don't stop time. A method for making up that time is built into the game.

3) The blown offsides call in the USA-Algeria game NEARLY cost us the game, and I think that's what you're referring to. Regardless, it does often change the course of a game. Refs are nearly always right with offsides, but people tend to focus on the blown calls (of course, that's logical). It's a part of the game, and the players have to deal with it and play with it. Like you said, nothing will be perfect. FIFA have talked again and again about the offsides rule, but the one they have in place really is the best for the game. I'd be interested in hearing what you thing would be better, because I actually like the current implementation.

Hope that helps you see everything from a soccer fan's point of view :)

Very good post! The accuracy of the offside calls has been quite good this round of games and they have also handed out a few yellows for diving. There have been a few missed or poor calls, and that's pretty shitty, but that happens in any sport.

The stuff about the bad acting is what turns most people off, atleast in my circle of friends. I remember in my best friends college dorm they had a kid from Barzil, nice kid, he was totally into soccer. So like 10 of us sat down to watch sort of out of respect to the kid and all the fake injury shit made it un-watchable for everyone. That was, by far, everyones #1 complaint. That and the fact you're lucky if you see a point scored every hour.

It is weird though how soccer is only un-popular in America, dunno how that happen/started? 99% of the world loves the shit, how did we come to hate it? Must be something in our water lol

Didn't feel like responding to the rest of your post, but your idea here solves nothing. If you stopped the clock every time there was an injury (or pretend injury), people would dive just to stop the clock (to get a break in the action).

The best thing they could do is add another ref or two to the field. Why should one ref have to cover a whole field by himself? Have one ref in the middle, one on both sides (near the goals), and finally, the side judges. This would provide enough coverage of the game, where people would see things from multiple angles. Reviewing the match once its over for obvious flops and penalizing those players would also do away with a lot of diving and fake injuries.

thats easy to answer. Thats because Americans have a short attention span and NEED instant gratification. Soccer is all about the art of the plays, not the score.

Bullshit, look at golf. Golf is almost as slow paced as soccer and people go nuts for the shit. Hell, chess is probably more popular than soccer in the US.

Not so constructive, need to get your facts right but I get that you're venting.

The diving and feigning injuries is an utter embarrassment for the sport, I agree with you about that. I think its a cultural thing, certainly some countries seem more likely to try it on than others. You don't see English players feign injury as much but in South America, as an example, conning the referee is often seen as a skill of the game.

Unfortunately this gives a team a competitive edge, and therefore almost forces other teams to do the same in order to compete and, because professional sport is a high revenue business, whatever you can do to get a competitive edge is fair game.

I'm pretty sure soccer hasn't changed shit in like 50 years

Bullshit, it has and continues to change just about as much as any other sport. Couple of recent changes - the offside rule gets tinkered with virtually every season, the diving rule was brought in relatively recently, the back passes rule was brought in, goal line technology is fiercely debated continuously, extra refs added, yada, yada.

Your suggestions:

1) We all want the gay pretending you're hurt shit to go. The problem is telling when they are faking. If it was obvious, it would be an easy problem to fix, and FIFA has tried a few things in the past, but none have been overly successful.

hell maybe even give him a yellow card for being a fucking sissy if it's obvious he's pretending (similar to a diving rule in the NHL).

Hell yeah, great idea! Why don't they do that? Oh wait, they already have that rule. What's it called? The diving rule... And it gets used a lot (also in this world cup) - sometimes correctly but also a lot of the time incorrectly which is the problem.

2) Refs already do stop time for injuries and do try to be relatively accurate. The problem is that the existing precedent is that anything more than 5 minutes of stoppage time is very rare so presently the ref keeps adding the time up until it gets about there and then cap it. Could be fixed by FIFA telling refs to accurate accrue all stoppages and add it on, but then games could go on for an extra 20-30 minutes.

Also, could be possible that teams may start using this as a tactic, extending games as long as possible by feigning as many injuries as possible, to gain an advantage? Would be terrible for the sport and make it very poor entertainment.

Better solution is try and prevent the diving/feigning in the first place which is what FIFA tries to do (see point 1 above).

3) The offside rule gets changed almost every season and is fiercely and continuously debated. If you can think of a definition of the offside rule that would fix the problems, then by all means tell us this golden nugget of wisdom and I'm pretty sure FIFA would take it onboard in a hearbeat. But just saying "Change the offside rule" and then not giving an better alternative is just a bullshit whinge.

You gotta admit though, all the incorrect decisions, etc create quite a lot of drama, excitement and talking points in the games. By introducing this element of chance, every team believes they can win any game and that's where a lot of the passion comes from. Sports entertainment is about balancing chance and skill.

99% of the world can't afford to play American sports. The USA probably subsidizes North Korea for their soccer gear.
