STAY AWAY FROM NAMECHEAP.COM

OP you must be doing something wrong. I had 2 namecheap accounts flagged for fraud as I was buying domains while vacationing in Eastern Europe. In both cases they removed the fraud flag from my account in less than 24 hours after I sent them verifying documents.

Namecheap is excellent and have always treated me right. Go shit on someone elses good name.

Never once had a problem with namecheap. Customer support always seemed decent too.

I've purchased 100+ domains with namecheap. Only had one issue with them, and it was fixed in under an hour. I'd give these guys another shot before castrating them.

If you want to get technical, their example would be anecdotal, but it can only be a fallacy if they had attached some type of argument to it, which they did not. The OP however, made the argument to "STAY AWAY" and then gave his anecdotal experience. That isn't necessarily a fallacy either, because he could be arguing that people shouldn't support a company that was bad to even one customer.

"Brazzers gives me good service." - not a fallacy
"Brazzers gives good service to their customers, I know this because they gave me good service." - anecdotal fallacy

GoDaddy with couponcodes ftw

This.

... have fun with GoDaddy when all of your domains come up for renewal. 20 bucks a pop, plus 10 privacy. I just renewed a ton myself, even after the coupon I wanted to cry.

WTF are you talking about man?! Whether you like GoDaddy or not, I can't stand bullshit exaggeration like this. You sound like my mother recounting a news article in which 5 people died and she says 50 people were killed. It's full on retardation.

It's 8.49 + 18 cents ICANN fee. .nets are $7.68 total. Namecheap wins in the cheap whois category, but out of my approximately 450 domains, I think I have privacy on 3 of them. That being said, if you ask nicely your GoDaddy rep will give you a year of free whois too.

Godaddy recently updated their layout... but it is still a pain to use.

Why is it a pain to use? Their domain management dashboard is a piece of cake.

No idea why anyone would want to do business with Godaddy....horrible horrible company.

Why is it a horrible company? Besides the fact that Bob is a huge douche, are you basing this purely on third party anecdotal evidence or have you personally been wronged by them?

Yeah, If I was just searching the domains I would understand. but I registered the domains, they flag me for fraud, won't take the ban even after I sent the proof they wanted and I tried to schedule a time to discuss it over the phone (online support was 0 help) and before the issue is even resolved they register a few of the "better" domains themselves.

I've used namecheap for years without a problem

I'd wud never use Godaddy for registering a new domain

While I fully agree that it's not GoDaddy's place to police the Internet, it had nothing to do with censorship. I was an anti piracy bill they were backing.

Piracy* is already illegal and there are already laws in place for how Youtube and such suppose to deal with it. SOPA contained legal language that opened the door for making it so that the entire Youtube site, and any site linking to it, could be entirely removed from the internet.

* Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)

If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”

So what's your point?

You said "it had nothing to do with censorship." My point was that SOPA would have made it easier to remove (AKA censor) sites from the internet.

Pay attention to the bit where I said, "it's not GoDaddy's place to police the Internet". Besides, due to public opinion they dropped their support for the bill. They aren't the first company in the world ever to make a mistake, they won't be the last.

None of that has anything to do with the contents of SOPA, which is what I was commenting on.
