Thoughts on Joe Paterno?

Joe Paterno lightened the situation to protect the program. Maybe when some of you have kids you'll stop defending dirt bags. As a leader its your responsibility to protect the people(children in this case) around you.

Actually, he's right.

McQuery by his own admission walked in on Sandusky railing what looked to be a 10 year old boy and his response was to leave and call daddy? Are you fucking kidding me?

He was 28 years old, the appropriate response would have been to forcefully stop the rape and call 911. He should go to prison too. He was complicit in every rape that happened after that incident, because if he had intervened that rapists would still be in prison.

As far as Paterno, there are two possibilities. First, McQuery didn't explain exactly what he saw and just said there was "inappropriate activity". If that's the case, Paterno has to go for not asking exactly what he saw and following up on it with the administration. If McQuery told him exactly what he saw, then Paterno is a real piece of shit for not calling the cops himself and making sure that fuck went to prison.

I like Paterno, but there is no way that he comes out of this without blame. And let's not forget the most recent rape was 2 weeks ago, which never would have happened if all of these guys did the right thing.

Currently waiting on the Pedo State University logo with the Pedo Bear Mascot...

Don't get me wrong, I wish Paterno would have done more. HOWEVER, he did what he was supposed to do. According to state mandates, Paterno was to report the incident to his superiors. Should he have followed up? Yeah, I would have wanted him to. Should he be fried and vilified? No.

Also, why wasn't this piece of shit put away in 98?

Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6's mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong. The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge.

Retiring after this season, funny that his still calling shoots. I say fire his ass this week. Dont give him the dignity.

When it comes to raping children its a zero tolerance policy.

Just throwing my two cents in here and I know I am going to get flammed but your all jumping ahead on the raping the boy in the shower.

There is no doubt that he had, as the facts said "anal intercourse", with the boy but we now know it was rape and not consensual. At the time when assistant walked in on them it was a reasonable reaction to turn tail and leave because 1) he did not know whether it was consensual or non (though that's really a minor point, it is still illegal to have sex with anyone underaged) and 2) what would of happened if he did walk in there and break it up? possibly scar the child for life or allow the sick pedo to cover his tracks. Of course none of that excuses him, he is still partially to blame but so is everyone else.

As has been mentioned above, I sincerely doubt that any reasonable person, (or one remotely in their right mind) would actually walk in on anyone having sex to break it up....except maybe an overprotective mother :P bad experience there lol.

Also people are saying that Joe should of done more. I am just going to point out that if your boss tells you that it is "taken care of" you usually assume that it has and you get back to work. Hell there have been numerous studies that a reasonable or average person would follow another person as long as they assume they are "authoritative" say for example a person dressing up as a policeman. That's one of the big let downs of a legal entity you become a little clog and you only focus on your own work and never intrude on someone's area of work. Hell that's the main reason why there was a global finical crisis oh and also because nobody wanted to take responsibility but that also seems to be another point in this case "I did my part and that was all i was meant to do" which is technically true but it doesn't stop bad shit form happening.

But yeah to sum up I don't think that the assistant or Joe Paterno should cop all of this blown up blame that the media is throwing at them but they should still be held responsible for their actions (or lack there of) but more blame should be put on the chain of command that obviously failed. Okay I have had my rant, Flame away...or rather flame on! lol

Where is Chris Hanson when you need him? To Catch A Predator was must see TV.

JoePa should be fired or resign immediately, the guy has some serious morality issues letting this go on under his watch.

McQuery needs to be crucified. I don't know why he hasn't at least been fired yet. Who the fuck sees an old man raping a 10 year old and just walks away and tells his dad? You should call the cops immediately, and then get in there yourself and stop the pervert.

While I think Joe certainly deserves some blame, McQuery (and Curley/Schultz who actively covered it up) should get the lion's share.

This.

Just throwing this out there since it was asked about somewhere in this thread but I'm too lazy to scroll up and find who asked. From the Wikipedia page about Jerry Sandusky:

Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and senior vice president for finance and business Gary Schultz (who oversaw the Penn State police department) were charged with perjury and failure to report suspected child abuse by Sandusky.

I think a big kicker here for JoePa is that: Is someone who oversees campus police department, considered the "police"?.... I would assume that If i told the head of campus police, that he would be the one to bring things to actual police. But apparently that guy just lied and covered things up. Really the Campus Police Head, and the AD is the one who REALLY messed things up.... that doesnt get Paterno entirely off the hook tho...

Now McQuery on the other hand... that is an entirellllyyyyy different story. McQuery is more at fault than Paterno, however Paterno has a higher responsibility given his position at the University...

It's also reported the DA knew as well and did not proceed. Shit is about to hit the fan me thinks
The DA from 1998 is dead. He disappeared in 2005 and his car and laptop have been found. His body has never been recovered. His girlfriend reported that he called her saying he wouldn't be home that night, but he never returned home.

but what did he do from 1998-2005... although he may be dead and we will never know the answer to this question.... I'm sure it must have been a group of people within the DA who would have known.

The DA decided not to press charges against Sandusky. Nobody has come forward with any reason why he was not charged in 98'. What is puzzling is that Sandusky admitted to both a detective and a mother that he showered with a boy. He said he was sorry, it was wrong, and it wouldn't happen again. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH MY STATE????

District Attorney came up missing in 2005 - this shit is starting to look like a much bigger conspiracy and like there were more people involved in the child molesting that was going on. There is no other reason that so many adults would fail to act on something like this. There is a reason everybody was covering it up. Happy Valley isn't so happy...I have a feeling there is something much deeper going on in Central PA.
Agreed. Something just isn't right here, especially considering the DA/police knew of the abuse. Society just doesn't tolerate child abuse, so I'm not sure what happened here.
