Votes do count. Elections do matter.
Businesses are leaving CA daily and leaving for other states/countries. You do not think that if CA citizens voted in Texas type politicians this would be happening?
What about the tax changes 2013 thread in STS recently. You think that would be headed your way had enough bee diligent and exercised their votes? What about all the health care taxes etc?
Elections matter. You can get ivory tower on me and say its all the same, but it isn't. In many ways that directly impact my life, there is a difference.
Too much philosophy and not enough real world experience around here. It's amazing.
You want change? Try impacting your local school boards or counties. Find a candidate you can support, get them elected, and then help advance them from that point forward.
You can get a person into congress for just a couple million. Mayor of LA - couple million. City council in LA - much less. I imagine it is even cheaper in many cities most of you live in. A few votes in your favor and BAM! you have change.
It takes under $100K for a supervisor in Riverside County. Crap those guys make decisions every day that cost me way more than that as a RE Developer.
Quit bitching, stand up and do something about the situation. That is how the system is designed. I mean, in CA, I can get any law I want as a citizen placed on the ballot. Write the law, gather signatures ($1M), garner ad support and BAM! its the law of the state. Garnering support of course is key, the fact is that many ideas are not worthy of public support, but if yours is, then you just made a law.
The US system can last forever if people simply stand up and make things happen.
How about all of you spend some time influencing groups to make it something non-desirable again to be on public support unless you absolutely need it. The group here has the power to change opinions. But rather than take action everyone just bitches and moans that it is not possible. Thank God you guys were not around in 1776.
