The act of voting - and here, I'm referring to the casting of electoral votes - is essentially saying, "I think Candidate X should be able to implement arbitrary laws that restrict others, and use coercion and violence against those who violate them."

Given this, why should anyone be given the right to vote? And wouldn't it be reasonable to argue that the act of voting is a vote for violence?

The point of a democratic republic is that the majority rules, while minority rights are protected. The powerful are quite good at taking care of themselves. You don't really want to live in a society where the vulnerable are unprotected do you?

How to increase the number of voters 101 (Increase the public interest):

Make online gambling legal during election period. Turn white house site into exclusive candidate betting system. Bets can be made by state, sort of like sport bets. House, err, white house keeps 10% spread. Real time odds, up until the last minute.

Money collected by the house can br divided 50/50. 50% to pay off the national debt, 50% to the winning party. Democrats can trow it towards welfare, republicans toward tax returns for the higher brackets.

International bets are accepted since half of those will go right back to pay off external debts.
