Financial scholarships are available at most universities based on family income. If you get accepted to a good school, you can apply for financial aid.
What you're probably thinking about are things like the united negro college fund, scholarships exclusively for blacks. Is that a little racist? Yeah. But guess what, most scholarships go to white students and pass over black students sheerly based on a numbers game. Most people respond "well if they created a white only scholarship fund, everyone would say its racist!". Well fuck, every scholarship is a white scholarship. There are MORE white people applying with higher grades, at a rate where a black kid with OK grades would never get into college.
Thats where the logical argument comes in and says "ok, well maybe black kids need exclusive help to financial aid". Its less about putting down the white, and more about empowering the black.

Like it matters that a black kid with "OK grades" doesn't get a scholarship, even though a white kid with "OK grades" wouldn't get it either...
Affirmative action means settling for less than you could have. If it didn't, there'd be no affirmative action, because it'd be a non-binding policy. For example:
If two people apply for X, and one of them is white and one of them is black, and the white one is better qualified, affirmative action effectively states that the black one should be selected at least some portion of the time... simply for being black. Its not hard to understand why that is a poor strategy.

This is a sunk cost, for lack of a better term. Who cares how it started? What came first: bad parents or criminals? What came first: psychological disorders or crime? Neither of those make sense, why does "black crime or white discrimination" make sense?
