Wittacker on why he left google :)

Google is already past its prime. Just like that guy says, it's only an advertising company, not the "tech" company people think it is.

Best part is the replies from assorted Google employees that are butt-hurt because he shared his reasons honestly.

Most of these types of comments attack him for going back to MSFT, implying that their issues are worse than the issues that caused him to leave Google, while ignoring the crux of his blog post.

OUCH:

"Perhaps Google is right. Perhaps the future lies in learning as much about people’s personal lives as possible...Perhaps if they offer an ad for a divorce lawyer because I am writing an email about my 14 year old son breaking up with his girlfriend I’ll appreciate that ad enough to end my own marriage."

I knew they fucking read my emails! =D

Just sounds like another butthurt employee. He had some idealistic notion of what a job was and got let down by reality.

somewhat relevant, and just a bit disturbing:

Darpa director leaving the Pentagon for Google — RT
^Just coming here to post that. Sheesh the future isn't looking bright for ANYONE these days... Feds moving in, smart ppl moving out... We seem to be approaching a major turning point at teh googles. I'm nervous.

I wonder how many sheepsheses will see that RT headline and think that the director of Darpa just wanted to make a lifestyle change and head over to the private sector to make more money or something... It can clearly only mean one thing.

ALL YOUR SEARCHES NOW BELONG TO UNCLE SAM.

It's already dead, just a zombie at this point.

It seemed like it could of worked, when I migrated from facebook...I didn't want to, but was happy once I got there settled in, figured the same thing would happen.

I liked the idea of circles and shit...but it just didn't work. I don't know why though. Facebook just has this shit sewed up I guess.

I'm pretty sure Darpa and the NSA have had their hands in some of the smart grid meter and self driving car stuff over the last few years, both of which are quiet big brother projects at Google. Started with CIA money, open partnership with NSA...yeah. Google doesn't quite live up to its motto.

I've really wanted to get away from Google but the damn whores make it so hard. I haven't found anything which beats their search (suggestions? I would have expected Bing to be second best but Googles relevancy is just on a whole other level) and they just make it so easy to integrate your life into their services.

EDIT: Just read the article. Good read, although just restating facts that have been pushed around this board for quite a while.

People may call me crazy but I could switch to yandex if I had to. It's clean, fast, and has good results. Bing has too much fucking trash in their SERPs and the results are shit as well.

I believe Startpage.com uses Google results and makes them anonymous.

Thanks. Infact, Scroogle used to do this but it appears they're dead now. If they just added the search options like Google it would be awesome. I'll probably give that a go for doing any personal based stuff.

Now if I can just find an email provider as nice as gmail I'd be almost there. Oh and if everybody stopped using YouTube and used Vimeo. And if something as good as Google maps came along. And a whole suite of nicely integrated Android shit. And.. And...

There are alternative options for pretty much everything but Google just does it better.
