the superbowl is all commercial anyways. its rare ill actually enjoy the football played during the superbowl. the best games are always in the post-season.
I'd largely agree with this.

It's been a slow decline, trying to make it a more offensive league. There is this perception that people want to see points and these rule changes will make the league more palatable to a broader audience. I think that's complete bullshit. While I appreciate skill positions and offense in general, smash mouth defense is what makes it really worth watching IMO.I will admit the game is becoming less exciting. The way it was played in the 70's with the steel curtain was great. With Goodell going all hitler on the NFL players the hard hits have been lacking this year.
I will never, ever respect soccer because of the giant pussies that play it. Fake writhing on the ground in pain is pathetic to the extent that soccer players do it.
jeffrey said:Shut the fuck up. While I don't agree with Rage9 about his hatred for soccer, to say that American Football is softer then rugby is arrogant. How about your country gets your top rugby players to play against our top football players and our country will be laughing when your players get carted off the field because they got knocked the fuck out.

And all the fines this year under the banner of player safety have been ridiculous. Unevenly enforced and a horrible system for handing them out. There needs to be some kind of process that goes into determining the fines, instead of it being on the whim of league dictator Goodell. Like a board of players, coaches, owners or something that make the calls and serve as a conduit for appeals. Right now if a player wants to appeal, they have to take it to Goodell. That's kind of like appealing a speeding ticket to the cop who gave it to you.
I mean don't get me wrong, I like seeing teams score points and offensive displays but I'd have to agree that smash mouth defense and bruising physical games are the best. Those games are what football was intended for and this pass-happy nfl is beginning to bore me. That's why I love watching the steelers-ravens game. Both teams hate each other, talk shit, and back it up by smashing the opponents face into the ground.
Regardless if I am a Steelers fan you have to admit some of the fines have been absurd. Not to mention the fact that Roethlisberger was intentionally injured by two Bills players. The league's double standard is getting too obvious. If that was Manning, Brady, or Brees, those two Bills Players would've been fined and suspended. It's bullshit nowadays. The No fun league is almost as bad as the NBA.
"Like I always said, Carson Palmer got hit in his knee in 2005 but there was no rule made. Then Tom Brady got hit in his knee and all of a sudden there is a rule and possible suspensions, excessive fines - it's just getting ridiculous."
Why do so many people like it globally? I don't know, don't really give a fuck to be honest. I'd guess it's largely cultural and the fact that it's so accessible for young kids to start playing. Can you run? Check. Can you kick? Check. Ok, here's a ball and go to town.
Frankly, I really don't give a shit how much the rest of the world is in love with watching it. It doesn't impact the fact one little bit, that I think its about as exciting as watching paint dry.
God, I can't believe I got baited into posting in yet another soccer / football thread.
A few things:
Whoever said soccer is more technical than american football has no fucking idea what they are talking about. Seriously.
secondly, to brag about how much more intense rugby is and that nfl players wouldn't stand a chance playing it is retarded. Truthfully, you're right. You know why? Because Rugby is a sport for fucking PSYCHOS with no regard for their body. Who the fuck cares if you play with no pads or on offense and defense. Its such a ridiculously unsafe sport I'm fine with accepting that nfl players wouldn't do it. They already have enough issues with pads and injuries, you take the pads away and dudes will die, straight up.
To claim that its more "manly" is blind, fake testosterone bullshit.
On another note; people saying that NFL players diets are coke and hotdogs, cmon. Don't be ridiculous.
Ok, I was teasing about the cokes and hotdogs, but you know what? I played Rugby and Football in highschool and I can tell you that I was a lot more fatigued when playing rugby because it was a harder sport to play, however I was a lot more hurt in Football BECAUSE of the equipment.
When you're playing Rugby, and someone tackles you, it's body on body. That's not always the case in Football. You can take a helmet to the knee which HURTS. You can have someone drill you in the lower back where the equipment doesn't cover, etc etc....In my other post, I pretty much said that you cant just take football players and have them play against rugby players because the sports are different, rules are different, etc...
My biggest turn off to the sport of football in general is that the players are for the most part dedicated to one aspect of the game. It's the only sport I can think of (and please enlighten me otherwise) where an Offensive player does not have to play defence and vice versa. The odd exception is during a turnover, where 9/10 times both teams look lost.
I played both rugby and football too and I'd agree with you that rugby was more exhausting but I'd disagree to say that it was because of the equipment. I do understand where you are coming from but I'd be hard pressed to say it's entirely the equipment. Football players are massive now and just about every game I got blasted by a 6'4 280 lb lineman (I played QB).
After a rugby game I just felt tired and needed to rest it off but with football I had to get an ice bath, constantly keep my feet wrapped in an ice pack, and had more cuts and bruises then the body should have.
I guess I did make a bad analogy between rugby and football now that I think about it. I can't say that either is more physical though because they are each more physical then the other in a different way. However, it doesn't take away from the fact that in soccer most of the players are pussies and will fake an injury to get an opponent a yellow or red card.
Dude, it's the equipment. I played against some pretty big guys in rugby as well. Not Football Player big but close...its the fucking helmets and shoulder pads that are hurting you...i was constantly getting cut by the bolts on facemasks...that wouldnt happen in rugby..football is harder hitting for sure, and couple that with an 'Equipped body part hitting a non-equipped body part' makes it even worse. The saving grace is that the whistle blows, play stops, players get swapped in and out, possesion changes hands and a new squad comes in, etc..
In Rugby, the play goes on...you gotta keep going...if you lose position, it doesnt matter if you're banged up...you gotta get the fuck back up and start defending.
Soccer is popular in other countries because the equipment costs are so low, making it accessible. 22 poor people can pool their money from a week's worth of peddling "rare beads" and buy a soccer ball

Triple fail in that video.
I'm pretty sure they are the lowest ranked team to ever host. I don't see how their tiny country can get much better in 12 years. They'll get knocked the fuck out in the first round.
