Atlanta Bans Smoking Outdoors

Is it *really* that big of a nuisance to you? You're acting like every 20 feet there's someone asshole blowing smoke in your face when you step outside the house.

Public parks and beaches are vastly wide open places. If you happen to be situated in an area in which a persons smoke is blowing your way, just move a bit and the problem is resolved.

Let's not sugar coat this shit, the only reason these laws are being introduced is to make the local governments money. More crimes == more opportunity. They don't give a fuck about your health.

Quit being a negative nelly.

I guess for me it's the principle of the matter. If I'm laying on the beach and someone 10 feet from me is smoking and it bothers me why should I have to get up and move? How do I know that if I move another smoker won't come sit down next to my new spot and start smoking next to me? (Believe me this has happened plenty of times) Am I just going to keep moving around the beach all day because smokers don't have consideration for the people around them?

They are the ones being inconsiderate, they should have to move not me. Fuck them. They don't care about me, I could give a fuck if they're sad that they can only smoke in their own homes now.

Already exists up here in Vancouver:

Vancouver Park Board - Smoke-free Parks

...and now that it does, families like this group of (insert derogatory epithet) are trying to get smoking in your own yard / house made illegal. Pathetic.

Backyard smoking angers Maple Ridge family - British Columbia - CBC News

As someone with most of a university education in a health care field (pharmacy) I can assure you it's flat-out ridiculous to claim any sort of health benefit to non-smokers from creating bans like this.

Heaven forbid that these crybabies walk on a sidewalk next to a street, where infinitely more airborne carbon monoxide and toxic carcinogens are being spewed out by every. single. car. that passes by. Yep, even your Prius!

Oh wait... car exhaust don't give you headaches but second-hand cigarette smoke does? We call that "somatoform disorder" - in order words, your hatred/jealousy for others who choose to smoke is making you sick.

Pretty sad state of affairs.

When people try to tell you what you can't do because they don't like it they are called republicans.

When people try to tell you what you can't do because they believe what you are doing is bad for you, they are called democrats.

Politely tell them that their smoke is reaching you and if they could smoke elsewhere. I know that's a hard thing to do, being we're internet social rejects but most people are mindful and would actually either put the cig out or move.

"Hey man, not to be a pain in the ass but that smoke is in direct line with the wind and it's choking me over here..." that's all you'd need to say and they'd deal with it. The very small percentage who want to be hardasses and continue, just move. The probability of another asshole smoking next to you again is nill.

The problem with these dumb fucking laws is they're going to continue to escalate more and more to the point where it will affect you negatively. Can't have 16oz "soda"/"pop", can't fart in public, your fanny pack will have to be transparent, submitting to random public anal cavity searches.. Shit sounds ridiculous but it will happen if we continue to let these pieces of shit pass more and more laws.

Then I'm guessing you support banning all cologne or perfume in public places?

The easiest way to snatch someones rights is to hide behind a minority or a kid while you are doing it.

Right? Idaho tried for three years to get a texting ban implemented, and only succeeded this year when they latched on to some tearful story about an 18 y/o girl who died a while back.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I just wish I wouldn't have to tell someone that. I would hope that they would be able to figure it out on their own.

I'm all about civil liberties and all, but all these damn smokers do is throw out their cigarette butts into the fucking wind, like fuck it. If you simple disposal of your fucking habits properly, maybe motherfuckers wouldn't be making laws against smoking in the fucking park. You all know, that if you look at the fucking smoker section of anywhere, cigarette butts are fucking everywhere. I guess that's how they mark their territory... They really shouldn't have made this a law, but whatever... Let me get back to getting money.

I'd support any ordinance against littering in public places, I don't like dirty parks either.

boo fucking hoo. smokers - go suck my dick raw dogg. fucking tools make the place damn near uninhabitable.

i can't believe the stupidity of some of you cunts. "oh no i can't inhale radioactive isotopes and jet fuel anymore, waaaah". cry me a fucking river.

So, the solution to people not giving a fuck about the littering ordinance is to pass more legislation?

uh yeah... If someone is littering... they either get fined. And then if the fines aren't enough, ban the shit in that spot. People can't figure out how to dispose of their cigarettes, then fuck em. They don't give a fuck about the city, park, or the fucking planet, fucking ban them. People can't come and start spilling toxic waste in your backyard for a reason, people used to. Then then they made laws against that.

So the correct thing to do when you have passed a law than you have either neglected to enforce or has proved to be unenforceable in all practicality, is to pass another law that will likely prove difficult or impossible to enforce?

I like you a lot, CCarter, and I always enjoy your posts, but if I've got your thinking right, you need to be in Washington instead of Cyberspace.

I don't know the solution to this problem. I'm commenting on this scenario of law. More laws aren't the solution, but at least they will push the 90% of smokers away from the parks, and other public areas. There will always be the mischievous 10% "badass", and the'y get fined.

The problem is this doesn't apply to me, since I'm not a smoker, but the day a dumbass passes a law that inhibits my freedom of doing something, then I'll be mad.

But let's be serious for a second. They passed this law because of the litter. If you follow the logic from our own experience of people who smoke, you know it's because they are littering all over town, let's be fucking serious. Imagine, if all soda came in glass instead of plastic, and every time someone drank soda, they threw the glass bottles onto the ground shattering them. It's against the law to litter, but these motherfuckers are throwing glass on the ground. groups of them go outside to drink soda, and drop those glass bottles all over the ground. Imagine the glass in the parks, dogs, kids, all that glass. Kids stepping on the glass, dogs and birds eating the glass. Bike tires popping. It would make the experience of the park not worth it. And there is not enough patrol to catch these people. So they make a law, no more soda bottles made of glass in the park, or maybe in the whole city. That solves problem with the only tools they have at their disposal. If you can solve the problem another way, I would love it, but smokers can't figure out how to smoke and dispose of their cigarette butts themselves, so fuck em.

I agree with the ban of smoking in crowded public areas. For one it's just annoying when you are walking on a public sidewalk and you have to pass a smoker. Shit is just not pleasant. When I see someone at a public gathering with children involved and they are lighting up and blowing it straight into the air... I actually get angry.

All legitimate health concerns aside, if you are smoking in public areas, you are impeding on the comfort of others.

That is more a laughable excuse for the crap your authorities pull than being serious. If litter was the issue, they could just as easily increase litter fines to the point where getting caught just once has a significant impact on your ability to put food on the table for the month just like singapore does.

without making the half of the population angry that smokes.

If you see the amount of cigarette butts on the ground of smoking areas, fuck em. They can't clean up their act after decades of complaints, fuck em.

So what's your solution to the problem? I mean really. No one is going to pass a fine that impacts their ability to put food on te table for the month. Shit isn't as bad as download movies... (sarcasm)
