I can go to walmart right now and buy a shopping cart full of guns if I wanted to. It's state by state. We have a very low crime rate here yet we have the highest amount of guns. You don't try to rob people cause you will get shot. If someone were to try to shoot up a school they would get shot. Common sense...

Solution to this mess: We need more gun-free/violence-free zones.

If the Boston Marathon finish line had been labeled a bomb-free zone, this would have prevented such a tragedy.

Additionally, requiring that individuals register their vehicles, pass written and behind-the-wheel exams, and give a fingerprint for their driver's license would absolutely reduce the number of people doing reckless things with vehicles.

Let's demand change NOW!
 
A lot of people are throwing around the term "criminal." I am curious to how these people define the term. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board is a criminal to some degree. I know I am. And I don't think I'd be interested in hanging out with anyone who isn't.

Driving is not a privilege. Being able bodied and having the dexterity/depth perception to do it might be, granted by God/nature/Zeus or whatever you want to call it. But to act like having a "license" to drive a vehicle is a privilege is absurd to me. Have you ever tried driving without a license? I have. It's weird, it's almost exactly like driving with one. The main difference was my wallet (and subsequently my vehicle) felt about .20 oz lighter. Other than that, I couldn't even tell the difference. Car worked like normal and everything.

In today's society, it's a privilege. Let me know how it goes for you when you get pulled over and your dumb ass doesn't have that .20 ounce piece of plastic to give to the officer. Someone who doesn't give a fuck about the gun laws.

A person who wants to go kill a bunch of people with a gun is not going to go oh wait, this is illegal I better not. Or this a "gun free zone".

In-fact making it a "gun free zone" will make them more likely to target that area as they know they can do whatever the fuck they want.
 
I heard from a pretty smart guy once something that rang pretty true to me. The Constitution and Bill of Rights were never meant to detail all your rights, or include everything that you may some day have a right to, in fact the more you try to include in as a Constitutional right, the more you water it down. The Constitution specifically address a very important subset of rights. Those are the rights that would most likely be taken away by a tyrant. Those were what the founding fathers were most concerned about, and rightfully so.

10th amendment author James Madison owned slaves until the day he died, and the idea of allowing women to vote back then probably was just a tiny blip on the radar.

Women's suffrage came with the 19th amendment in 1920.

I am not sure how it addresses those "rights". The Constitution isn't binding on anyone. Even if it was binding on the generation it was written for, it isn't applicable today. As a lawyer, you know that you can't bind future 3rd parties to a contract.

To me, the Constitution is like the Bible (no offense to any people of the Abrahamic books). Someone, sometime wrote some stuff down. And now, it has taken on spiritual power. It has taken on ethical and moral power as imperatives. People actually prostrate based on what is written, regardless of its original intent or veracity. To me, that's what the Constitution has become for a lot of people. More holy document than what it is. 4 pieces of paper.

A license is permission to do something illegal.

It's illegal to drive a cab. Unless you pay. It's illegal to cut hair for money. Unless you pay. And so on and so forth. It is "legal" graft.

Anyway, I'm a gun rights guy. The whole background checks thing has its pros and cons so I'm kind of on the fence about it. I'm just glad the whole assault weapons ban isn't on the table.

At the end of the day none of these laws are going to do anything and it pisses me off that politicians are able to distract us with them. They pass these meaningless laws, pat themselves on the back and pretending they did something about the problem, then move on.
 
For all of you Obama haters, it's time to actively participate in politics and show people how things can change for the better. At least for the peasants sake?

I see a lot of promising individuals here, with full of ideas that can really work wonders for the country. And that's what we all would need for the future, don't we?
