What is this blasphemy?!?!
I was serious...
What is this blasphemy?!?!
I really hate to keep ranting in here, but... Popeye. Come on.
The reason you don't hear, generally, of explicitly atheist charities is because the notion is rather ridiculous. There are no explicitly atheist charities for the same reason there are no charities for people who don't believe in unicorns, Santa Claus, fairies, or Russell's celestial Teapot.
There are, however, explicitly Secular charities - quite a few, in fact. They may have religious people working there or volunteering, but patrons of the organization can rest assured that donations aren't steered by the decisions of men who lead their lives based upon several-thousand year old myths.
There is absolutely no denying, whether you are religious or not, that religious 'charities' can, indeed, be nothing more than revolting rackets, preying upon the uneducated or the brainwashed.
I'm not saying that it's impossible for exclusively religious charities to do good, not at all. Although I will say that one might be advised to take pause before donating and thoroughly investigate the cash flow of the organization, so as to ascertain whether or not the funds are actually going to whatever cause prompted the donation. As with any charity.
Ahh, I could go on and on about this topic. Sorry if I ever come off as an ass, Popeye, but I feel very strongly about these subjects.
and,
Wow. That's horrible. Read a book sometime.
To lighten the mood, even the most backwards of you should be able to appreciate this: youtube.com/watch?v=15u6fHkICxc

There may not be any atheist charities, but the 2 greatest philanthropists of our time both are atheist and both have their own organizations to deal with donating cash. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. They don't call their organizations Atheist, because they don't have some mental virus that requires them to conquer the worlds beliefs. They just give out cash to better other humans lives. Much better than telling a starving African that "you want food, medicine, and water... just sit through our brainwashing seminar."
Islam is certainly not the only religion where non-believers go to heaven. First of all, there are many great religions that don't even preach about heaven, and in my interpretation of the Bible I'm not even sure Christ preached about heaven being in the afterlife. The kingdom of heaven on earth I believed he called it. And when asked about Hell he says "there will be gnashing of teeth.. ect" but never says it is punishment from God for unbelievers. Now Paul, widely know as the first perverter of the Gospels does go on to spew a bunch of nonsense about heaven. A more logical interpretation is this: Heaven is the state of human completeness and Hell is the state of human confusion.
O.k., now I'm done on this thread.. Back to making money so I can appease my Buddha
Bill Gates's and Warren Buffet's god = Money!
And who's god is Benny Hinn's?

I hate to burst the bubble of the athiests out there, but the biggest secret in Science is that SCIENTISTS THEMSELVES don't agree on the big bang theory.
You make a LOT of assumptions in this post.t the PS
I hate to burst the bubble of the athiests out there, but the biggest secret in Science is that SCIENTISTS THEMSELVES don't agree on the big bang theory.
I for one can't believe in a basic theory that not even Scientist themselves don't agree on. But don't take my word for it, Check out what the leading scientists in the world have to say in the PBS document on String Theory - you can watch it for free on youtube.
YouTube - Brain Greene lecturing on quantum physics and string theory
He says that "Even science doesn't know where energy comes from" ---in other words the Big Bang "theory" doesn't prove creation. That's why I have a problem with those left coast hippies who don't want to let some aspect of intelligent design -- the part that SCIENCE VERIFIES -- to be taught in school, but the Big Bang Theory which not even the scientists can agree upon, is taught as fact.
By the way, I have no problem with Athiests as long as they aren't as fundamentalists and some of those super-closed minded members of other religions.
Because make no mistake - Atheism is a religion. Athiests believe in the "big bang" and other theories which require one to have "faith" because Scientist themselves don't have evidence to support the theory. I think I actually like agnostics because they seem to have the most open minds.....
Brian Greene, Professor of Physics at Columbia University Narrates it.
On a different note, I think we have to let go of taking what the Bible says literally and look to it more as a metaphor where less learned people tried to explain what is known now:
Example: in the beginning was light (the bible)
In the beginning there was Energy = mass* speed of light^2 is what science says
....things that are made come from things that do not appear (Bible)
Energy = nonphysical
Matter = physical
matter (that which is made) comes from things that do not appear (energy)
That's the irony. If the super fundamentalist Christians could let go of taking so much stuff literally, they could really get to the scientifically proven substance of The Bible----hmmph!
Uh, who are you to lump together atheists and make broad judgments about what all atheists believe in? Have you interviewed them all? Do you have some sampling, statistics to back up what you are saying? And you want to say some people (atheists) are close-minded? I think you need to look at the fucking 2x4 in your eye.Athiests believe in the "big bang" and other theories which require one to have "faith" because Scientist themselves don't have evidence to support the theory. I think I actually like agnostics because they seem to have the most open minds.....
The only religion I know of that says non-believers go to heaven is Islam (if they led good lives, I believe).
