Your story you have is well taken. However there are people who work hard and get no where in life. What about the people who work their ass off all their life and then get cancer. These people do not deserve to be cast away and go bankrupt because healthcare and insurance companies look for any reason to charge you out the ass and not pay for the damn bills. Yes some people suck. That is understood, some should not get help. Some should however and that is the point. In order to help the ones that need it you have to also extend a hand to the ones just living off the system.
The US is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not have a universal health care system. We are behind in caring for one another. It should not be about fuck the other man because I am better.

I truthfully didn't care about the election as this is the first year I would be able to vote, but McCain had a fundraiser at the golf club I play at today and this shit really pissed me off. There is this company based out of Cincinnati that makes these super nice fully electric cars. It is a Saturn Sky but they pull the engine and re-do everything to make them 100% electric. They were looking for government funding and came out to the club to try and show McCain the car, and he said he was "too busy" and could not walk out to the parking lot (which is really close to the clubhouse) to take a look at it.

You think he's an ass because he didn't want to hear a sales pitch? So tell me, how do you treat salespeople who don't even have the courtesy to make an appointment, but rather just show up and expect you to drop everything and pay attention to them?
The thing is he knew they were coming, he was in Cincinnati and he had talked with them before, as that is where the company was from. I do know there is $300 million for the first company who comes up with a practical electric car and this company has it.

You don't need the government to steal through taxes to help people. People can help people, all the government is, is an expensive middle man who is prone to waste and corruption.
You know what the most effective humanitarian aid agency is? The Red Cross. It's volunteer and donations. No government subsidies. That's the power of people helping people. The Red Cross did a hell of a lot more in Katrina than the government did.

Reading your article now and would like to point out that is the govt stepped in and did not allow drug companies to charge people in the US hundreds of dollars for a prescription that cost 25 cents elsewhere that would change a lot.

The government is the one who protects the medical industrial complex. The government is the one who forces prices up by providing bottomless medicare and medicaid. The prescription drug plan is an absolute monster.
People think that they can have socialism, which is basically the government gives you stuff for free, or they make other people give you stuff cheap. We're all big boys, we know there is no such thing as free. We also know that price controls distort the market.
People hate HMOs, but the government is the one who brought in HMOs.
The answer is to get government out of the way, so we can go back to having charity hospitals, and all sorts of private practitioners without the regulatory and unionized shortages. Can you imagine if we could double the # of doctors? The AMA would never allow it, but you would almost instantly cut prices and drive up supply.
One has to ask themselves, the market usually provides for demand. So with demand for affordable care at an all time high, why isn't the market providing? Because the government and big pharma, big medicine are keeping it on a leash to maintain profits and control.

The medical industry is out of control. They claim that the high costs are due to lots of research, and yet nearly every primetime commercial is for some kind of medication of even obscure sicknesses. Name anything else that advertises like that that you can't even technically buy yourself.
Beyond that, I used to know a guy who ran an online pharmacy. His entire job is/was going to 3rd world countries to find doctors that would give out prescriptions. The prices in those countries are absolute fraction of what they are in the US. He was selling with a 100% profit margin and was still vastly undercutting the prices in the US. If I remember correctly(this was years ago), for a max strength xanax bar (2mg) his actual cost was $1.00. Maybe less.
They're scamming the public and no one does jack shit about it.

If you really want to undermine the Republicans, vote Constitution or Libertarian. They both steal votes from the Republican party faithful directly. Supporting one of them (Barr, Baldwin) would go a lot further towards screwing the GOP than voting Obama.
