Conspiracy Theories and Athiesm

To clear up some misconceptions about terminology, it's possible to be any one of the following:

agnostic theist: God's existence can't truly be known, but I personally believe there is a God
gnostic theist: there is a God, and it can truly be known
agnostic atheist: God's existence can't truly be known, but I personally don't believe there is a God
gnostic atheist: there is no God, and it can truly be known

Although that still doesn't cover all positions. There are still the middle-of-the-road agnostics that believe the existence of God can not be known, nor are they convinced one way or another. Then there are the people who think it's pointless to even argue existence vs non-existence because there's no true definition for what "God" is. Anyhow, this idea that there are strictly three positions - theist, atheist, and agnostic - is not the full picture.

Evolution is biblically compatible.

I realize there are many people who believe this, but few of them actually get into the details of the matter. There are some serious problems with the Genesis account juxtaposed with the earth's natural history. For one, our sun existed long before there was life on earth. Genesis has plants existing before the sun. Literal "days" or not, that's false. Also, the time line of evolution has different plants and different animals originating at all different periods in time. The Genesis account has all the plants made in one day and all the animals made in two consecutive days. Even allowing for non-literal days, no matter how much you stretch these days, the basic Genesis order is not changed and it is totally mismatched with the earth's natural history. In reality, some animals came before some plants, which came before some other animals, which came before some other plants. No matter how non-literal and symbolic you want to get, there's no way to turn earth's time line into a 6-step process.

Giving up what? I don't know what you believe, nor do I care. What I do notice is that threads like these inevitable degenerate into sneeringly insulting exchanges and ad hominen attacks. And irregardless of that, I'm not particularly interested in getting your seal of approval for whatever I believe. I don't need to hear your psychobabble about how I believe the Bible because I need to believe in a God, or whatever other drivel you guys say. Nobody has definitively proven that there isn't a God. The Bible leaves a lot of details regarding creation open to interpretation. Evolution is biblically compatible. I believe the Bible because it makes sense to me, and if somebody else is blowing their load ready to evangelize everyone to atheism, why would I be interested in that, much less subject myself to their fervor simply to 'save' them?

I love how you think, LOVE it - no one disproved this guy either,

Oh wait, what - you don't think it's silly to think there's a flying spaghetti monster do you?

Why?

Is it because he doesn't come with a book of outdated morals and fancy stories that can be "interpreted" a thousand different ways to fit whatever problems are in your life, in a cheap fortune teller kind of way?

Is it because he wasn't invented 2000 years ago when people were dumb as bricks when it came to the natural world? I'd actually laugh a little less if you believed in the FSM as opposed to god, at least one of them is plausible.

I didn't come here to give seals of approval, I see all religions as nothing more than a by-product of human weaknesses. I'm only here to pull out the jenga blocks in the fantasy tower of religious delusions.

Pa-Pa-Pa-Ratatata, they all fall down.

Exactly.

The bottom line is, simply BECAUSE there weren't passages written centuries ago built upon the Flying Spaghetti Monster fable, as opposed to the Christian/Muslim/Greek/etc. myths, all of the modern day religions are considered by most people to be the true answers to the unexplainable and unproven wonders, based on natural (yes, evolved) humanistic insecurities.

The current school of thought concerning the origins of the universe are no less "faith" based than believing in a supreme spiritual being.

While religeous leaders are preaching about a invisible spiritual being, quantum physicist are touting quantum mechanic principles that state "anything that can happen at the quantum level, will happen"

Both of these are not acceptable to the logical person. While I am not sure and no one on this forum is sure, what exactly is the truth. I for one believe that there is something to it all. All the closed minded atheist can call me what they wish but the logic they stand on is just as flimsy.

Which ones are you talking about that are outdated? I'm assuming one is about homosexuality, but how about the others - adultery? Which others?

- women stoned to death for not crying for help if they're raped (Deuteronomy 22:23-24)
- death by stoning for working on a Saturday (Numbers 15:32-56)
- death by stoning for disobeying your parents (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)
- women must marry their rapist (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)

All about the context, right?

Ridiculous.

One is based on physics and the other is based on nothing. Guess which one of the two holds out.

Even Vishnu is a bit of a joker himself,

rest is here.. www.oshkoshfreethinkers.org - Intelligent Design

Basically an expansion of what I was saying on how fucked we are. Special intelligently designed creations my ass. How bout all the religious keyboard warriors on wickedfire gets out of their house and try to convince those kids that there's a god that intelligently designed them. Your frail logic and weak emotions would buckle at the very sight of one of those kids.

Even if religion makes you happy, even if you think it makes you a better person - it's still only an emotional crutch that you were either born in or led to believe in after a series of emotionally stressful events in their life. If you're the above two examples you will never have a coherent argument or unbiased example of why you believe, rendering your opinions useless in the face of truth.

There's two options from here on in, either you will eventually grow up and let go of the fairy tales or persist in your emotional world of delusions and still be worm poop within the month when your time comes. I'd much rather see the world for what it is, same outcome either way.

Effects of sin after a couple thousand years.

Then believe in a spaghetti monster for all I care. Personally, it seems unlikely, but if that's what you're into, go for it.

Basically exactly what I said. People who are obsessed with what other people believe. Dude - why do you give a fuck? Get a life.

I can't speak for zimok, but me personally, I don't have a problem with what you believe as long as you keep it in your own household. When you start trying to bring your 10 commandments to the courtroom (and I mean literally put it on the front lawn like, Alabama, was it?) is when I have a fucking problem with it. When you take a nation that is 95% religious and still manage to create a Constitution firmly based on the separation of church and state, well... I think that pretty much says it all.

Sigh...the point was to stop the state from persecuting religious people. Now we have people like you in government who think it means imposing a state religion of atheism and purging all cultural symbols from government buildings. And I'm sure that's why you expend so much energy spewing your anti-Christian venom - because some Justice wanted The Ten Commandments on his courts lawn. Ok...

I'm with turbo on this one. Every time I pass a catholic statue in my town I scream NO I DON'T WANT TO GO TO CHURCH WITH YOU! Then I run away before it can chase me down the sidewalk with its scripture filled flyers begging me for a donation to the church.

Someone needs to do something about those darn things...why they gotta be all up in my religious business... sums of bitches

I have no problem going to a catholic hospital though

One is based on physics and the other is based on nothing. Guess which one of the two holds out.

Matter appearing out of no where is NOT based on physics. It is based on the idea that anything that can happen at the sub atomic level will happen. This is a "theory" that is thrown in to explain all the missing links that the scientist have no explanation for.

Western law is based on the ten commandments! Why wouldnt they be displayed in a courthouse? You might need to do like many other people do and just don't pay attention to it. It isn't biting you. It isn't corrupting your mind. It isn't calling out for you to commit murder in it's name. So why do you even waste a moment's thought about it?

Also, please do some reading on the whole church and state thing. The left has made this out to be like it is in the constitution or something. It's not. It was a letter by Jefferson to the Danbury babtist. This letter reffered to the constitution as a wall of seperation between church and state.

This country was VERY much founded on christian principles. The whole church and state thing was an idea of the constitution being a safeguard to keep the government from instituting a government sponsored religeon. The founders were afraid that our government would go the same route as England and push a single religeon on it's people.

The federal government by mandate of the constitution cannot keep relieous signs out of state courthouses anyways. That is for the states to decide. That way if you don't like living in a state that honors the traditions of our founders, you can move to Seattle.
