What I'm uncertain of, is what income level must you be under in order to receive the government-run healthcare option? That's how this will work correct? Those who make over $x will not be eligible to receive the gov. option, and will be forced to buy healthcare from a private insurance company - which depending on the medical background of the person/family, could be too expensive, correct? If I'm wrong, let me know..

there's no government option. it's medicaid. If you don't qualify for medicaid, you must purchase insurance.

Great question dreamache, that's definitely a gaping defect in the logic of this bill. I suppose the supporters are thinking people within this group(breaking even on bills but not covered) can simply sacrifice some other part of their lifestyle to be able to afford a plan.

You're fucked. They said they'll offer a tax credit if you make up to 400% of the poverty level, but your monthly cashflow is still fucked over. The tax credit is only once per year, and would not cover the full expense of your health coverage.

Ok here's another question then.. Why the fuck must we (the people in the group I'm describing, which I assume is a big %) have health insurance? I was under the impression that only those who make over $200k/$250k a year would be paying for the currently uninsured..

How do the people who pay PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES help out the situation? I'm assuming the answer is the way it helps, is by the revenue generated by the tax penalties of those who opt not to purchase insurance?

The sad fact is, we don't have to raise funds like that because it is too easy for the government to say "hey shit heads, you have to give us X amount of dollars per tax year to do this, we don't give a fuck if you want to or not. If you don't we will just fine the shit out of you, after we audit the bejeezus out of you, on top of the substantial fine you will get for not just doing what we say"

When given the choice to do the right thing, as a rule, the American people do. When forced to do it, as a rule, we get pissed off.
