My traffic dropped almost 50% at the end of April.... still no signs of recovery.

inb4 you need unique content blah blah (already have that)

Penguin is about links, you have "bad" links pointing at your site so the only way to resolve it is by removing those links or starting over on a new site and avoiding building those "bad" links again. Some have had luck with 301 redirects so maybe give that a shot.

The thing is I never paid for any links... being 100% honest.

How would I go about determining which ones are bad?

If you have a warning in google webmaster tools it's about bad links. No warning means it's an over optimisation penalty....keep building links but with a diverse anchor text and your site will recover.

Penguin it's not about content, it's all about keyword diversity. If you have a very bad kw diversity, try to remove some previous links, and build some new with different anchor texts

As Bharte says, it is NOT about bad links, unless you got a google webmaster tools penalty. Even then there are options, you don't have to start over or remove links.

If you didn't get the email, then you just have too heavy of a anchor text density and/or aren't linking to inner pages, stuff like that. There is plenty of good info out there, just google it, I won't repeat it all.

But in short you need to water down your link diversity. I have talked to tons of people that recovered and/or did better after penguin. I work with a lot of clients and we took some hits cause we were too tight on our anchors. We watered down and all of our clients recovered.

Thanks for the responses. I just signed up for webmaster tools, so I'm waiting for the link data to populate.

Any tips on building links? So far I've only relied on natural links....

TO ALL THE POSTERS ABOVE ME:

i'm deeply annoyed, upset and mad. U know why?

OP did not ask "Hai gais Im a noob can u explain penguin for me plz kthx".

He asked IF ANYBODY RECOVERED FROM PENGUIN YET, so stop telling him what penguin is or is not about. That's not the point of the thread.

It's been months and we all know what Penguin is about by now because we all read shitloads of articles on search engine land, seobook, search engine watch, seomoz, microsite masters, search engine journal, matt cutts blog, google inside search, google search quality blog, google's official blog, search engine roundtable, search engine guide, search engine people, wickedfire, traffic planet, warriorforum and more!

I know penguin more than I know my mother for fucks sakes... so STOP WITH YOUR PENGUIN 101 and let's get to the core of the thread: HAS ANYONE RECOVERED FROM PENGUIN YET? If yes, let's hear what you did (or did not do) to recover... but for the love of everything that's gay, stop telling us what we already know.

Yours truly,

EvilPenguin

Ha ha ha... this thread is so full of crap it makes me laugh. Reading articles instead of doing your own testing??? I guess if enough people say it then it must be true, why do the work and test to see if the info is correct? And the OP has had months to find the answer by doing some actual work but instead is looking for the Holy Grail to get his site to #1 by posting threads like this.

Now why should I put in 16 hour days testing, testing and then more testing to figure this penguin out and then just give the answers away for free to the lazy people who did nothing?

I think I am going to write another one of those so called expert articles so you all have something to read... of course it will be all full of shit but it will sound so good that anyone reading it will think it is true.

you're missing the point of what an online forum is dude.

we're all here to exchange ideas and learn from each others experiences.

just like scientists from the university of Virginia might benefit from a discovery from scientists from the university of Milan and build upon it. No one wastes time testing shit that's already been tested and proven by somebody else. That's not how evolution works buddy.

We live as a community. We learn as a community. That's what we're here for.

Multiple sites, it's not that hard if you do the opposite of what you did before and the opposite of what everybody is doing now.

Discussing this publicly is only slighter smarter than playing docking station with a live rattlesnake. If you can't understand why, continue to enjoy your shit fuck traffic and reduced earnings.

God damn you're hot when you're angry.

I am not aware of a single recovery story so far, and I talk to a lot of people in this space. Doesn't mean there aren't any, but it isn't something that happens often, or it's likely someone would have said something to me.

Yeah - I had barely noticeable dip in traffic after Penguin hit, but it's recovered and increased since then.

Mine was exactly the same on one site, and more than a barely noticeable dip on the other, the latter site is now back stronger than before but it was a lot of work (almost 3 months) and not cheap or easy.

Everybody PMing me for my solution, it's not getting outed. Sorry. Besides, most of you probably used a shit load more crappy "private network" blog posts links than I did, might not even work for you.

Fuck you Jeffrey, where's my words at? Sent your check too...yeah, it's 1995 up in hurr.

It's ok - I'll out my solution. I don't rely on Google for my traffic.
