His shit looks way too fabricated. So it's highly unlikely he actually believes it. He tapped into a great niche and is milking it for all it's worth.

Of course, if you keep saying something over and over, you might end up believing it. So he might lose touch with reality at some point and start believing his own content. But I don't think he is there yet.

Other ethnically and culturally homogeneous countries like you'd find in central Africa are not doing quite as well as Norway is. ;) Clearly it's not just genes, it has far more to do with being "Raised Properly."

But tell us oh brilliant one; In this confused-assed country we call home, where we've already got problems with racial, religious, and ethnic predjudices, illegal immigration problems out the wazoo, and an extremely fractured set of political beliefs... What O what are we to do to effectively encourage all Americans to WANT to get ahead, and be somebody, instead of just sitting around collecting welfare??

This problem is growing more and more serious as technology enables us more and more... Eventually there won't be any compelling reasons left for our children to want to make something out of themselves...

Im gunna go ahead and say it....In the US and Europe we have certain races of 'people' that would completely destroy a country like that. Ignorance breeds ignorance and when you are X amount of years behind in evolution you are never going to catch up nor be able to function in higher level cultural eco systems.

you sir, need to do your homework. it works because people have the same rights and get free education, not just the elite. the average European student (specially in Scandinavia) is going to outscore any American. There are TONS of turks and other southern europeans working in scandinavia. In fact, most northern and central europe has been overran by imigrants in the last 50 years, we just treated their 2nd generation better. I agree with you on the Moore being BS part.

and yeah, this would never work in todays america because of the social differences. May it be money or education.

Not considering my extensive experiences of living in Sweden and Norway (where I have a family), check the number (from a far more respectable news source than any american source can be) of how little people they let in their racist country - Asylum-seekers: Safer havens | The Economist.

And read about Malmö or Andersberg in Halmstad and I could go on...

Norway only had 4-5% of immigrants until 2005 when a left-wing coalition came to power and the % of immigrants doubled.

Norway has about 10% immigrants and sweden has about 12% of 'real' immigrants (closet to 15% actually but I wouldnt say fins\norwegians who move to sweden count as immigrants really =p.)

Norway\sweden definitely have pretty strict immigration laws though but that is basically because if we did not I am sure we would be filled up with 10 million immigrants pretty fast.

mouro? Look who's talking. if you want to call me anything, call me tripeiro. And I'm not working in Scandinavia either. and ps: Southern europeans = greeks, italians, spaniards, portuguese. Croatians, serbs, albanians are considered balkanese. And yeah, Turks can be Southern European. Istanbul is partly on European soil and they're trying to get into the EU because of the cultural and economic ties.

Going back this summer too, but to the Kansai area so it should be fine... but things in Tokyo are a bit worrying, a lot of people bounced (especially those with Children), they say you can't drink the water, but what about showering? :updown:

Moore does seem to fabricate some facts (especially Bowling for Columbine), but this was definitely interesting to watch.
 
I think the biggest thing most people forget when comparing US vs most of Europe, especially Norway / Sweden is population. New Jersey has the same or more people than Norway(twice as many actually) or Sweden do, yet their country is the size of New Mexico and California. The more people, the more problems you have, everyone knows that. It's a lot easier for a CEO to run a 25 man company efficiently and treat the workers right than it is for the CEO of walmart to treat all their workers fairly and still make the company profitable.


Although I do feel that that is a much better prison style than locked in a cell. I have a friend that lived up by me for around 15 years, probably 8 of them were spent in jail. Every time he got out he ended up getting in trouble again some time or another. He moved away from his area that he knew and moved to a brand new area. Met new people and started a new way of life, since he was not around his old friends and area he didn't find himself getting back into the troubles he's always gotten himself into and he's changed a lot. He now has a wife and kid and a house, and he's been out of jail for about 3-4 years now. Putting yourself in a different mind state than the one you've known your whole life can really change the way you are as a person because you learn to adapt and be a better person if you're surrounded by better people. If you're around criminals you're going to be one.
 
The norwegian way of doing things being applied or compared to what the US has to deal with is a pipedream because the following does not exist in norway:

not even gonna read the thread, but the for-profit Prison Industrial Complex in the US the reason we have such a high number of citizens in prisons in the US. FUCKING LEGALIZE IT!!!

This is true. The justice system and many of its component pieces rely on profits or reward the wrong things, and have a conflict of interest with improving society.

For example, the only yardstick for promotion for police is arrests. Fuck that guy with the flat tire, I need to stop that hoopty with the tail light out because I know he'll have a joint or two under the seat.

Got an arrest on your record? Fuck you, try getting a decent job the rest of your life, maggot. You're ruined.

I meant to say ghettos and trailer parks, to point out that it's not so much skin color or geography.

Out in England the "Chavs" are mostly white, afaik.

I said this in another thread, but it's more nurture than nature. Media, values, etc shaping how people behave, and freedom of expression providing legal protection to media that propagates these cultures.
