Jerusalem is a holy city for christians, jews and muslims. All of them fought for the city and justified any means.

Any of you know what muslims are called in the bible? Saracens. Do you know what the bible says to do to all saracens? Kill them.

Wouldn't be much fun to change modern translations in the bible of Saracens into Muslims, would it? My ex girlfriend from high school once told me that thankfully the Saracens where extinct because they were a vile race that did not deserve to live. She also told me that if they were still around she would actually try to kill if she saw one. I didn't want to burst her bubble and tell her that Saracens are actually Muslims because she had many Muslim friends. In this case it doesn't really matter exactly what the bible says to do to Saracens or what the Quran says to do to christians or whatever. It is always those few fundamentalists who gets all the attention when they go out and shoot the priest because they think they are going to heaven (where the streets are laid with gold - c'mon).

What many of you Texans don't understand is that the religions we know and see today where formed through the Dark Ages in Europe and the battles over Jerusalem. They didn't have the internet back then, you know... And the bible was written in Latin which only the priests understood. Have a look at the different popes during those times. Oh, and please realize and understand that after the Dark Ages and the power struggles in Europe, the Muslims actually preserved all the written knowledge for us. We would have lost all of it without them, because all the monasteries were burned to the ground.

Oh, and there are four ways that you can interpret the bible.
Methods of interpreting the Bible: Introduction

Do you think the Quran can be interpreted in a few different ways too?

Would love to see the verse in the New Testament where it says to kill Saracens. And I hope you know the difference between interpretation and translation.

Yes, if I translated the Quran today and interpreted it as if it was 600(s) CE, then I would have chopped your head by now and shitted in your mouth as well as piss on your body.

But I translated the Quran today and interpreted as if it was the year 2009, so all I'm going to tell you right now is that you are the biggest confused dumbass I have seen on WF. GTFO or STFU.

Hell look at the Bible, or even the Tanakh, if we were to based christianity and judaism on those context, its a wonder why more promiscuous women aren't being stoned today, or some woman being killed for hitting a guy in the nuts even in defense.

HarveyJ, no I have never been to Ipswich. I'm an international student from Norway. Uni in Brisbane.

Hellblazer, Can't find the phrase "kill saracens" in the bible. I couldn't even find the word "saracen" when searching through a range of bible editions. I feel gypped. Disregard what I said about the bible and killing saracens. My ex gf did say those things, though, and she was the one who said it was in the bible. Must have been loosely translated from the voices in her head, then.
It still doesn't change my main argument which is that holy scriptures can be translated in many different ways and that the religions we see today where shaped by people with a political motive back in the day.

Im all for fighting to protect our way of life in america but trying to force it on the rest of the world whats the difference between that and the spanish inquisition

Yeah, there's a whole lot of ways to interpret 'Kill the unbeliever'. Get out from living under your rock, retard.

You clearly know nothing about Christianity, or the covenants. There's no way you can understand how the covenants impact the testaments and interpret it to mean murder is justified. Those that kill innocents in the name of Christianity are not Christians. Those that kill innocents in the name of the Koran or the Hadith, on the other hand, can legitimately justify it according it to verses contained therein.

You obviously know only about Christianity because your brain in incapable of branching out and understanding other religions besides your own. Man I sure hope Prophet Isa resurrects again and bitch slaps your ass to hell.

Wait let me save you from Googling "Prophet Isa" because you don't know shit about other religions. Prophet Isa is Jesus.

Dumbshit.

I'm calling you out on the Bullshit there. You know the bible is the most historically violent, incestuous, misogynistic and oppressive texts in the western world. So any Christian living by the "versus contained therein" would be good Christians right?

I would like to believe if there is a God, he rewards people for good deeds, and not because they prayed in a certain temple/church/mosque/synagoge.

I would be extremely unnerved by a reward from an all-powerful etc God about any good deed I've done, b/c for every momentary 99% pure motive, I could then take a very honest look and realize it was about 1% motive which turned into something else. Personally, I'm thankful the God I believe in calls my good works "filthy rags" (and if you know the ancient Hebrew, they're talking menstrual rags, which in that society was pretty gross.) That verse is extremely offensive to many, but I think I really get it now.

by "the most historically" are you going to quote some stats or just call people out on bullshit? ;)

And your knowledge of other religions has served you well in arming you w/ the hammer of douchiness... ;) Christanity is extremely unique amongst other religions. You will not earn God's love or forgiveness in Christianity. That concept is rare amongst the major religions, and the ones that get around it do so by polytheism to keep anyone from accountability.

Avalanche, please don't post when you are drunk.

Wish that were the case. Just changing diapers. I could've consolidated those posts, but unless you want to get on my case for forum "grammar" at 4:00 am, I don't see anything wrong w/ those.

I love memetics.

Religion is a self-correcting meme. Study me, copy me exactly, explain about me to people who don't understand me (and if necessary, kill them and take their children and raise those kids to believe in me)!

Successful religions take steps to replicate the religion in new generations.

When you look at religion - any religion - like it is a living, breathing, virus-like organism, I think you'll get a better overall sense of how fucked up everything is and how unlikely it is that man will ever throw off his mental handicap.

You are infected.

Seriously? You're just fucking with me, right?

I mean I assume if you found wickedfire, you're not stupid yet you play dumb? ...but since your Google must be broken:

  1. Genesis
  2. God is angry. He decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and "all flesh wherein there is breath of life." He plans to drown them all. 6:7, 17
  3. Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:7-8
  4. God kills everyone (men, women, children, infants, newborns) in Sodom and Gomorrah by raining "fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven." Well, almost everyone -- he spares the "just and righteous" Lot and his family. 19:24
  5. God threatens to kill Abimelech and his people for believing Abe's lie. 20:3-7
  6. Sarai tells Abraham to "cast out this bondwoman and her son." God commands him to "hearken unto her voice." So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the wilderness to die.
  7. Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, is "defiled" by a man who seems to love her dearly. Her brothers trick all of the men of the town and kill them (after first having them all circumcised), and then take their wives and children captive. 34:1-31
  8. After God killed Er, Judah tells Onan to "go in unto they brother's wife." But "Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and ... when he went in unto his brother's wife ... he spilled it on the ground.... And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; wherefore he slew him also." This lovely Bible story is seldom read in Sunday School, but it is the basis of many Christian doctrines, including the condemnation of both masturbation and birth control. 38:8-10
Exodus

After God has sufficiently hardened the Pharaoh's heart, he kills all the firstborn Egyptian children. When he was finished "there was not a house where there was not one dead." Finally, he runs out of little babies to kill, so he slaughters the firstborn cattle, too. 12:29

A child who hits or curses his parents must be executed. 21:15, 17

.....You know, fuck this. I've got work to do and I can't think for you. Read your bible. Get a clue. If you can't do that for some reason here's a link with at least 1000 DIRECT violent, misogynistic, homophobic, children murdering, incestuous, hate filled quotes for you to enjoy in that EVIL text of yours that you hold so dear: Cruelty and Violence

I'll repeat what I said. Show me "the most". Get me some hard data.

I think it's ironic you're telling me to go read my bible when you just literally plagarized your thoughts off SAB, Family Values in Genesis and let this person do your thinking for you.

Hold on, let me go google my opinion, too... oh wait. I've actually read the Bible and can place each of those passages within the context of what was going on.

btw, if God is the giver of life, then he can take it whenever he wants. Placing the protection of life as the ultimate litmus test of evil is essentially "idolatry" (placing it above God). Even Christ-followers struggle with that concept, so I'm not suprised to see that come up. Does that leave the door open for whackos to abuse the text? Sure, but so does nuclear power. You can power homes or build bombs. I believe God gave us that and we make the choice from there.

What? Hard data? Of what? That your god said those things? Did those thing? Of course I can't do that a) because your god doesn't exist b) That creature in that text of yours is not a god but a sad pathetic being with gigantic small (<--oxymoron alert!) dick complex. (Really. Look at him he's pissed, he's jealous, he's aggressive, he's violent. He's like one of those little fat guys that drives those monster trucks on the freakin highway. That right there should show you your book was written by a bunch of pathetic losers.) c) Ahh shit I lost my train of thought. I just keep picture Napolean driving one of these:
